A message from R Dub…

It’s so tough to put into words my love for Tucson.  When my family first arrived that fateful summer of 1992, my dreams starting coming true…immediately…all of them, one after another.  From my first high school girlfriend, to my first car (that I still have today!), to landing my first job in radio at 15 years old–there is something “magic” about this desert that just continued to bless me, and I have never forgotten how good Tucson was (and still is) to me.

I’m most grateful for YOU…my listeners and supporters, who have followed me and my little Slow Jams show from Community Radio Station KXCI where I stayed up until 6AM to host my very first show at 16 years old, before heading straight to class; to the ground-breaking Power 1490AM, which was one of the first radio stations to expose Tucson to Hip-Hop and R&B back in the 90s.  After a short stop at Tucson’s Power 97.5, which unfortunately was only on the air less than two years–I was honored to hit the “big leagues” and bring Sunday Night Slow Jams to 93.7 KRQ.  A few years later, after KRQ acquired its competitor, Hot 98.3, I moved there to continue the Tucson tradition of Sunday Night Slow Jams.  Even after self-syndicating the show and airing on over 100 radio stations every Sunday, anyone who knows me knows that Tucson is and always will be, the most important city to me.  Both professionally and personally.

So while it came to me as a shock when I was informed that the company I had been with for 18 years was dropping my show (Clear Channel Tucson)–I was actually super-excited and re-energized at the chance to join a radio station who really appreciates the music and understands Tucson’s love for both Classic Hip-Hop and Sunday Night Slow Jams.

I am proud to announce, that starting this Sunday (August 9th), Sunday Night Slow Jams can now be heard on its new home:  97.5 The Vibe!  The show will air every Sunday from 6PM-12M.  And now, we’ll play even MORE of the Slow Jam CLASSICS that you love!

You can count on our concert series returning too!  Slow Jams LIVE! will feature more of the back-in-the-day artists that you want to see live!

I’d like to thank Ken Kowalcek, Buzz Jackson, Herb Crowe, Keith Rosenblatt, Jay Michaels, Davey Morris, Mike McVay, Steve Mills, Carrie, Shannon, Porkchop, and EVERYONE at 97.5 The Vibe for all of their hospitality and for welcoming Sunday Night Slow Jams to 97.5 The Vibe, without missing a beat!

Most of all, I’d like to thank YOU, the listeners of Sunday Night Slow Jams–for supporting this show and its music–for decades now.  Since 1994, we’ve been on the air with Sunday Night Slow Jams and none of this would be possible without YOU!  Please know how thankful I am for your support, loyalty, and listenership.

ONE FAVOR:  Now that I am on a new station, I am humbly asking for you to, 1)  Make the SWITCH over to 97.5 The Vibe, and 2)  Please share the news!  Please let all your friends and family know that the new home for Sunday Night Slow Jams is 97.5 The Vibe.  Would you mind updating your facebook status, sending out a tweet, etc?  I’d really appreciate it.

Here’s to many, many more years of Sunday Night Slow Jams to come.  Lots of love, and many thanks!

Yours Truly, R Dub!

Larry was a drill sergeant—tough, loud, and at times, brutal. He made me want to quit more than once. But looking back, I see what an incredible teacher he was. No safe spaces, no participation trophies—just hardcore training. He tore me down to build me back up, instilling fundamentals that I still use today.
