Have Slow Jams Will Travel
R Dub!, host – Sunday Night Slow Jams
EL PASO: Growing up in Tucson, Arizona, I’ve always considered El Paso to be our sister-city. I’ve spent many a weekends in the place they lovingly refer to as Chuco-Town, as El Paso was home to many of my closest friends and family members. (And maybe more than a few blurry nights in Juárez.) So needless to say, I was elated when El Paso’s powerhouse radio station 104.3 HITfm welcomed me aboard their team on Sunday Nights.
I’ve wanted to be a part of El Paso radio for decades now…it finally happened, and I am so thankful. Needless to say, I wasted no time booking a trip to visit El Paso to see my new affiliate radio station. My weekend in El Paso was just as I expected…incredible! I was so impressed with how cool Downtown El Paso had become–street cars and everything–but what I enjoyed most was my time with my family at 1043 HITfm!
El Paso’s living legend and de-facto “mayor” Johnny Cage so cordially invited to come by and visit the morning show with him and Javi. I didn’t expect to be on the air, but once I arrived, the mics turned on and I was invited on the show live for some great conversation, including talks about relationships, travel, and I broke down the top 5 most requested Slow Jams of all time! What a fun morning show, and we had a blast chopping it up on the radio!
In the afternoon, it was back over to the HITfm studios to see Dario, before taking a little field trip with him for an early dinner at Cattleman’s Ranch. in nearby Fabens. I enjoyed seeing all the animals on the ranch, including rattlesnakes, deer and alpacas, before sitting down to eat. Man, I’ve never had such amazing BBQ in my life! The rib tips there were the best! Now I know why they call Dario “The Delicious One…” ‘Cause he’s knows all the best spots to eat! I knew he wouldn’t disappoint.
And how could a stop in El Paso be complete without pulling up on Pooh Heff‘s night show. Pooh’s been running the El Paso game for over a decade and it was great to hear his show live and see him in action inside the studio.
Actually, the whole HITfm crew is like a super-tight knit family. Each of them have been together at HITfm for more than a decade, which is why I feel so lucky to be invited in to such a special club. Special thanks to Francisco Aguirre and Grupo Radio Centro for having me.
You can check out Sunday Night Slow Jams every Sunday night from 5PM – 9PM on El Paso’s 104.3 HITfm. You can listen live to 104.3 HITfm HERE.
