A Nation of Slow Jams? It’s Coming.

R Dub! Founds Micronation

Alexander Bofill, staff writer

Imperial County, CA: About 100 miles northeast of San Diego lies an eleven-acre stretch of land, that, according to self-proclaimed Sultan Randy Williams, is a sovereign nation, completely independent and autonomous from The United States. Welcome to The Republic of Slowjamastan.

While there’s not yet running water, a sewer system, electricity or even one road, the nation does have its own language, flag, time zone, parliament, national animal and even anthem – that sounds eerily close to Elton John‘s “Rocketman.”

Williams said, “It was all a dream. I used to read Word Up Magazine. I am happy to lead this planet’s newest nation from obscurity to greatness. We have land. We have a plan. Come be the man…in Slowjamastan.”

If the name Randy Williams rings a bell, that’s because he’s host of the internationally syndicated Sunday Night Slow Jams radio show, which currently airs in over 200 cities in 17 countries. You know Williams as “R Dub!” for short.

You can learn more about The Republic of Slowjamastan on their official government website, HERE.

Stay tuned for updates. For now, enjoy the Slowjamastan National Anthem:

About R Dub!

Host, producer and creator of Sunday Night Slow Jams, R Dub! started the show when he was just 16 years old, at a tiny AM radio station in the middle of the desert. Today, Sunday Night Slow Jams is heard on over 200 radio stations in 14 countries. When he's not Slow Jammin' stateside, R Dub! can probably be found on an airplane headed somewhere new: his goal is to see all 193 nations on earth, and he's already seen 175.
