Radio DJ Promises 1 Million Tacos to Listeners

UNITED STATES – A syndicated radio station DJ spent Thursday afternoon promising his audience free tacos, a stunt that got him in trouble with his bosses at Sunday Night Slow Jams and caused a nationwide frenzy as listeners rushed into action.

“I love my listeners, and I just thought it would be cool to buy everyone tacos,” said Sunday Night Slow Jams host, R Dub!

R Dub issued this challenge on social media at 5:20PM today: “If I can get up to 1 million followers on my Instagram, I’m buying everybody tacos.”

Almost instantly, thousands of listeners flocked to R Dub’s Instagram (HERE is the link) to follow soft-spoken Slow Jams DJ, in hopes of redeeming their free taco.

“I’d follow R Dub anyway, just because I like his show,” said Lisette Vasquez of Chicago. “But once he mentioned tacos, I was like, oooooooh, I gotta make sure I’m following him right now!”

R Dub soon admitted on air that he wasn’t sure how he was going to pay for all the tacos, but that he’d “figure something out.”

According to the challenge, R Dub has to reach 1 million followers on his @slowjams Instragramby Monday. If his profile reaches a million followers, the tacos are on him.

“I have a love for tacos and a love for my listeners. I figured I would combine the two and make some magic.”

Is a million followers unrealistic?

“Not really,” said R Dub, whose syndicated Sunday Night Slow Jams show is heard on over 130 radio stations around the world with an estimated listening audience of just over two million people each week. That doesn’t count listeners of his iHeart Radio all-Slow Jams channel.

“If even just half my listeners just took 10 seconds to click ‘follow’ on my Instagram, we’d all be eatin’ free tacos.”

Sunday Night Slow Jams General Manager Herb Schmidlap says R Dub’s offer was reckless and irresponsible.

“I don’t know what kind of stunt he’s trying to pull, but it doesn’t fly here. What R Dub did was not in line with the beliefs and values of our company. Plus, how does he even know all of his listeners even like tacos,” questioned Schmidlap.

To which R Dub replied, “They love tacos. Hater.”

Want in on the tacos? Follow R Dub’s Instagram: @slowjams. He said if he hits a million by Monday, he’ll announce via Instagram just how to redeem your taco.

Besides his work on the radio, R Dub doubles as an alter-ego called “The Taco Inspector,” and has “inspected” taco joints all around the world, looking for the perfect taco.

Larry was a drill sergeant—tough, loud, and at times, brutal. He made me want to quit more than once. But looking back, I see what an incredible teacher he was. No safe spaces, no participation trophies—just hardcore training. He tore me down to build me back up, instilling fundamentals that I still use today.
