Back from an awesome trip to Louisiana with Mama…which exceeded all my expectations. What a blast!
New Orleans:
What can I say? The food, the music, did I mention the food? I ate and ate and ate and then ate some more. Was so glad to see my brother after seven years! He lives in The French Quarter and was an awesome host. I also got to link up with my friend Jammer from the fantastic radio station B97 and Howard Castay from affiliate 105.9FM KBZE in Morgan City. Special note: I had the BEST breakfast of my entire life at The Old Coffeepot Restaurant…order the “Lost Bread,” it is New Orleans’ version of French toast and it was the most magical thing I’ve ever put in my belly. Ever.
Lafayette:
Next stop was Lafayette, where I got to hang out with Digital and my friends at Hot 107.9—Lafayette’s home for Sunday Night Slow Jams! Shout out to Digital for his amazing hospitality. We had dinner and them roamed around downtown. I tried a new beer called Abita Purple Haze at City Bar, Marley’s, Nite Town and more…so many cool little clubs and bars downtown; Lafayette knows how to party! Shouts to Natalie, Brad, Chris, Kyle and all the other cool people I met that night.
Lake Charles:
Ahh, “The Chuck!” Lake Charles is a special town for me because my best friend used to live there and my show was on in Lake Charles for many years; so returning was like seeing an old familiar friend. I got to have a great dinner with Erik Tee from radio station 107 Jamz & Kiss 92.1 and then meet his crew at the station the next day. Susan, Don and everyone at the station was mad cool!
Beaumont, TX:
Hell, Lake Charles was so close to the Texas border, I thought we’d head an hour west and link up with Sunday Night Slow Jams station Magic 102.5! Me, Mom and my friend Adrian Scott from Magic 102.5 had lunch before we headed back east.
Baton Rouge, LA
Now this was the one town I was flying blind in. I have no history or friends there…but it was on the way back to New Orleans, and I have heard nothing by good things about the capitol of Louisiana. I had to stop! Downtown was beautiful–very historic! I immediately got a great vibe from Baton Rouge as I explored the streets and listened to some great radio. Speaking of radio, my host J’Michael Francois was more than gracious as he welcomed me into his radio stations: Max 94.1FM and Q106.5FM. One of my favorite stops, I got a tour of their brand new (and dope!) facilities and met some new friends: Shout out to Johnny Mack, Sean, Aaron and I could never forget LaTangela…what a great vibe!!! I finished the trip exchanging travel stories at dinner with a dedicated Sunday Night Slow Jams listener, Tigger, where I tried alligator for the first time…it was yummy!
If I forgot anyone, I’m sorry! So many new friends and faces…people I hope to see again very soon!
And a special shout to my Sunday Night Slow Jams listeners in the state of Louisiana…thanks for hanging out with me every Sunday. I love your state! Be back soon!
